A good marketer in that situation would have been would have been listening when the person said “I want a blue rope”. If marketer approached that same person with the yellow rope the response would have been “Oh, well I don’t have a blue rope, I have a yellow rope, good luck, maybe the next guy will have what you’re looking for” and then moved on.
Marketing is all about listening to your prospect and giving them exactly what they ask for. It’s not about convincing anyone of anything but merely allowing someone to tell you what is they want and then delivering it to them.
